It all began with the dream of an enslaved Black woman named Vitória de Jesus. We were at the threshold of the 18th century, in the town of Barcelos.
As the story goes, one day, a merchant passed by the store where she worked, selling small images of saints. Vitória de Jesus, very devoted to the Holy Child, bought, with the support of her master's wife, an image of a Baby Jesus, which was placed in a niche in that very shop.
