As a result of the political changes that occurred in Portugal, from 1872 onwards there was greater interference from local political power in the governance of the Recolhimento do Menino Deus through the Administrative Commissions.
The most relevant formal change took place on April 25, 1893. The Recolhimento was now called “Recolhimento e Asilo da Infância Desvalida do Menino Deus”, for orphan girls and pensioners. This designation remained until 1929. During this period, some relevant facts stand out: the official inauguration, on February 2, 1904, of the Oficina-Asilo do Menino Deus for boys and the visit of King D. Manuel II, December 2, 1908.
