Unfortunately, two years after the blessing of the Church and the Recollection, Vitória de Jesus died on September 12, 1735, as a result of an accidental fall, when she was heading to Viana do Castelo, in search of income to finish the work on the Convent. She was buried in the main chapel of the new Church, dressed as a blessed woman, wearing the tunic of Saint Francis.

After the death of Vitória de Jesus, the works stagnated from 1735 to 1739, due to lack of money. However, on November 28, 1739, two Franciscan Missionaries arrived in Barcelos: Frei Matias de Santa Maria and Frei Bernardino de Jesus Maria, who were concerned about the stoppage of the works. They managed to convince a widow from the city of Braga, Catarina Pinheira, to offer a budget of three thousand Cruzados to complete the works, with the condition being the allocation of two places in Recolhimento to two of her nieces. The condition was accepted and the works were completed in 1740, with the convent now in a position to receive the collected goods.
