Over time, it was found that many people believed that the Baby Jesus had the power to perform miracles. In this way, devotion to the image grew, and the alms offered, in gratitude for the said miracles, increased immensely.
This fact was of such importance that the prior of the Collegiate Church of the Parish Church of Barcelos, for reasons of spiritual decency, requested Vitória de Jesus and his lords, to allow the image of the Baby Jesus to be placed in a chapel of the said Mother Church, which belonged to the Venerable Third Order of Saint Francis. The situation most likely materialized in 1718.
