Cloister

In the convent building there is a cloister, which is quite simple. It recently received some repairs, carried out in the 20th century.

In the corridors on the upper floor of the cloister, you can see several historical tile medallions, placed in 1945, which narrate moments from the life of the recluse, relating the miraculous story of the Child God and the black woman Vitória de Jesus, who was at the origin of this house.

The inmates' cells have now been transformed into dormitories for the children. The Mother Regent's cell was located where the children's study room (hall) is today, where there were several cells, to the north. On the first floor, where the children's bedroom is located, since the mid-20th century, it was the room where the sisters met to work and also for recreation. The cell windows had double grids on the interior made of checkered wood. This part of the house is of primitive construction. Only towards the end of the 19th century, after the disappearance of most of the nuns, work was carried out in the cloister, enlarging the windows, among other changes. The room that communicates with the choir (now the dormitory, since 1946) was the chapter room and it was through this door that the choir was entered, the other door to the choir did not exist.
